Event Information
Now in it’s 8th amazing year, Walking With Spirits offers you the exclusive chance to experience the ancient Aboriginal tradition of Corroboree while enjoying the stunning beauty of Malkgulumbu (Beswick Falls), a sacred site not normally accessible to the general public.

Walking With Spirits is Beswick Community’s annual celebration of their culture and heritage. Using fire, puppetry, images and music to reinterpret the concepts within the traditional dances, Walking With Spirits presents corroborees from four Arnhem Land language groups. Visitors are invited to camp for the weekend in this spectacular lakeside setting, open to the public only once a year for this event.

Beswick Falls will be open from 12:00 noon, Saturday 1st August. Camping will be available for Saturday and Sunday evenings with guests required to leave by Monday morning.  Campers will be required to be completely self sufficient – see below for further information regarding amenities.

Other Information
Running time:
The performance begins at sunset (approximately 6:00pm - 6:30pm) and lasts approximately 3 hours. Seating is general admission and patrons should bring chairs or rugs to sit on.

Getting there:
Beswick Community is located 107 kms South-East of Katherine – drive south on the Stuart Highway for 51kms, turn left into the Central Arnhem Road and drive 56kms to Beswick Community. Follow the signs to the Cultural Centre to receive an entry pass to then go on to Beswick Falls.

The road to Beswick is sealed (bitumen) all the way. The road to the Falls (approx 20kms) is a dirt road. 4WD vehicles are recommended for this leg as the road is prone to sand and bulldust bogs. (If patrons do not have a 4WD, they can leave their vehicle at the Cultural Centre and wait for the 4WD shuttle into the falls. See below for further details.)

Please note, while every effort is made to water and grade the dirt road, this is not normally a public access road and it gets very dusty under heavy traffic. It is recommended that patrons seal any cameras or other equipment in plastic to protect from dust.

Shuttle service:
Patrons who do not own a 4WD can leave their vehicles at the Cultural Centre and wait for the 4WD shuttle into the falls. The shuttle will leave at 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm and 3:00pm on Saturday. Seats are limited and bookings are essential by calling 1300 122 344. Tickets are $30 each and include the return journey which begins from 12:00pm Sunday. The return journey time can be booked when you arrive at Beswick Falls. Please note there is no shuttle service on Monday morning.

Alcohol:
Alcohol is strictly prohibited. Please note also that sections of the road to Beswick and the community itself operate under specific liquor laws and the police can impound vehicles if alcohol is found in them. Fines can also be applied. Please respect the wishes of the community and do not bring alcohol to the event.

Camping:
Campers must be self sufficient. This is a wilderness location and there are NO camping amenities. Bush toilets will be provided, but please bring drinking water, camping and fishing gear, food, insect repellent and sun protection. First aid and ambulance will be available on site. Guests are welcome to swim, fish and walk in the area but should take all rubbish with them.

Photography:
Photography of any kind is not permitted during the performance on Saturday night.

Refreshments:
Basic (BBQ) refreshments are available (cash purchases only) on Saturday evening for the performance. Patrons will need to bring all other food and drinks.

Original artwork:
Original paintings, baskets, didgeridoos, mats and other pieces of indigenous fine art will be available for sale at the Beswick Community Cultural Centre. Prices range from $25 to $500 and credit card facilities are available.
