The Dancers Company, The Australian Ballet’s regional touring group,
comprises guest artists of The Australian Ballet and
graduating students from The Australian Ballet
School under the direction of Associate Artistic
Director Danilo Radojevic. Founded in 1980 by then
Artistic Director Marilyn Jones, The Dancers Company
brings the highest quality dance productions to
audiences and regions outside the major capital
cities. In 2009 The Dancers Company will present a programme of Ballets Russes
inspired works featuring a classical gem, a
whimsical poetic piece and a brand-new work created
especially for this tour. This magnificent triple bill is a perfect
introduction for newcomers to the beauty and energy
of ballet and to the history of this art form in
Australia. Poems Choreographer Robert Ray, inspired by several poems
of Sir John Betjeman, has created a translation of
the spoken word into beautiful dance. Set in England
in the 1920s, Ray’s work is one of graceful ballet,
of wit and uncluttered style that suits both the
period and sentiment of the poems. Music by Jim

by Tim Harbour Tim Harbour was a senior artist with The
Australian Ballet when he first discovered a flair
for choreography through Bodytorque, The Australian
Ballet’s annual programme for emerging
choreographers. Tim is now one of Australia’s
hottest young choreographers and has recently worked
with The Queensland Ballet, Cirque Vie and has
upcoming commissions for West Australian Ballet,
WAAPA and New York-based company Morphoses. In 2009
Tim will work with Australia’s dance stars of the
future when he creates a new work for The Dancers
Company.
The
Nutcracker (Act II) From one of the most famous ballets of all time,
this piece centres on Clara and her Prince as they
embark on a magical journey to the Kingdom of the
Sweets. Beautiful sets and costumes danced to an
unforgettable Tchaikovsky score make this a
performance not to be missed!
