TaikOz: The Gathering, Playhouse 8:00pm Tuesday
18th November 2008 |
|
|
With ancient practice at its core, TaikOz combines
tradition with the latest Australian and Japanese
compositions. Combining the primal power of the
Japanese taiko drums with the ethereal tones of Riley
Lee’s bamboo shakuhachi, TaikOz is exploring a
synthesis of East and West, old and new. Drilled to
knife edge precision, the result is astounding, with
audiences hypnotized by the dynamic high energy
musicianship of TaikOz and their unique fusion of
Japanese ritual drumming and western percussion music.
The Gathering includes several new works and
features guest artist Timothy Constable from Synergy
Percussion, adding a new dimension to the group and
raising its expressiveness and power to explosive new
levels. Tickets on sale soon!

Australian String Quartet - Cantilena, Studio 8:00pm
Saturday 29th November 2008 |
|
|
Australia’s premiere international award winning string
quartet returns to Darwin with Cantilena, a gloriously
melodic programme which brings together Richard Meale’s
evocative Cantilena Pacifica, Schubert’s lyrical
Rosamunde Quartet and Tchaikovsky’s First Quartet with
its famous Andante cantabile. Cantilena Pacifica is a
haunting work spun from one melodic thread; a magical
effect that leaves time standing still. The Rosamunde
Quartet’s lyricism is tender and delicate, but
underpinning this tranquility is a searching turbulence.
In contrast, Tchaikovsky wears his heart on his sleeve.
His first quartet is unashamedly Russian in its
romanticism and fiery passion. Sir Thomas Beecham once
said, “Magical music never leaves the memory.” These
three works are sure to make an indelibly beautiful and
lasting impression. Tickets on sale soon! | | |
